Your day starts at the ancient city of Mayapan, followed by a refreshing swim in a sacred, private cenote and, finally, a traditional meal made by a modern-day Maya family for the ultimate Yucatán immersive experience!
During the post-classical period, from approximately 1220 AD until 1440 AD, the city of Mayapan became the last political and cultural capital of the Mayan kingdoms. This archaeological site tells the story of love, betrayal, and the eventual extinction of an ancient empire.
Rituals were and still are an essential part of the Mayan culture. Here in the Yucatán Peninsula, they regularly perform their ceremonies in caves or cenotes. The Peninsula has more than 7000 cenotes that are connected by the world’s most extensive underground river system. You will have the opportunity to visit and learn about these fantastic underground systems!
Today modern Mayas still live in the area, work on the same lands, and adhere to many of the same customs as their ancestors. You will learn about beekeeping in Yucatán and have the opportunity to taste a variety of honey from the area.
