Reflecting on Our Favorite Moments of 2021

Bird watching

Reconnect with nature in Mérida, Yucatán. We are lucky to have 350+ species that either migrate or live here. The Yucatán peninsula is one of the best places in the world for birding. If you don’t know about birding, you should give it a try. #meditative

Wim Hoff Method

Would you dare? It is an intense experience however, if you can stand the initial shock and use the breathing techniques you will feel the mental and physical positive effects long after you climb out of that ice water.

Temezcal Ceremony

Spirituality is non-denominational, a Temezcal Ceremony is a tool that can be used to reconnect to your spirituality. It’s also great for clear skin and a clear mind. read more here

Farm to Table

Partnering with a local chef we hosted a lovely 4-course farm-to-table dinner at Villa Merida. All ingredients were organic and sourced or grown locally by a Mayan Co-op. #eatlocal

Sacred pipe Ceremony

Reconecta Women’s Day Retreat was for the local ladies. A sacred pipe ceremony is a ritual used for connecting the physical and the spiritual worlds. The pipe’s stem represents the masculine, the bowl represents the feminine, the tobacco is an earth offering, and your breath is air. Smoking the sacred pipe with music and song is how the prayers are delivered to the spirit world. #ceremony #prayers

Bacalar

The lake of seven colors. This was a weekend off work. #girlstrip I believe it’s super important to turn it all off and escape to nature on the regular. It helps you remember your why, reconnects you to what is most important, and gives you buckets of free inspiration.

*Sailing is a Green Maya Project approved low impact activity.

Mayapan

is an ancient archeological site. Mayapan was the political and cultural capital of the Maya in the Yucatán Peninsula during the Late Post-Classic period, with upwards of 17,000 residents. It was also one of the last Mayan cities to fall. We love it because it’s not crowded, the surrounding nature is brilliant, and you can still climb the pyramid for a birdseye view of the city.

Espita

The architecture throughout Yucatán is spectacular. Due to its booming economy and the impulse to culture, Espita was once considered one of the cultural centers of Yucatán. When the demand for henequen fibers dropped so did the economy in many of these smaller villages but the magnificent buildings still stand.

Meditation

We co-guided the spiritual health and wellness portion of a fitness retreat. We did breathe work, guided meditations, nature walks to help the retreat reconnect with themselves. This beautiful location is deep in the jungles of Yucatán, México. #OM

Hang with Anna

Anna lives in a small community with her family outside of Merida. She invited us to lunch in her home and shared her gift of melipona beekeeping with us. She is extremely passionate about caring for the co-op and for nature in general. Her 3- year-old daughter is an avid bird watcher. #indigenious #maya #honey

Cenotes

Speaking of flying space objects… 65 million years ago an asteroid struck the Yucatán Penisula and created the largest underground river system in the world. Cenotes are lakes connected by the river system, we have over 7000 magical cenotes throughout the peninsula. The Maya used the cenotes to perform ceremonies and sometimes sacrifices. #sacred #magical

El Cuyo

Take me there- every day! El Cuyo is a small beach village to the north shores of Yucatán. It’s a totally laid-back vibe with kite surfing, SUP, nature activities, with boutique hotels and restaurants.

Happy New Year! Bring it on 2022. ✨
