5 Reasons a Retreat is Better Than Your Traditional Vacation

Maybe you’ve seen something about or even experienced a yoga or spiritual retreat, but did you know that there are many different retreat themes? There is something for everyone: Adventure, art, culture, food, history, nature, music, volunteering, women’s/men’s, couples, sports, and of course, health and wellness. Retreats can last from one day to multiple weeks. It depends on the experience you are seeking. The purpose of the retreat is to create a safe space for you to relax, open yourself to possibilities, and be inspired to get into your flow. The goal is to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and reconnect to your wildest dreams.

Every retreat should have an intention-based or a themed program. The schedule and activities will change based on the theme, but here are five reasons why you might want to start googling --- fill in the blank--- retreats.

  1. Someone else plans your vacation and handles all the logistics so that you don’t have to think. You can see and do everything on the program without the stress of searching, choosing, lodging, food, transportation, translating, changing money etc… All that you have to do is show up.

  2. It’s a solo travel experience, with the optional bonus of making new friends who share similar interests. You don’t have to worry about a travel partner’s needs or desires. Everyone is on their unique journey but within the support and comfort of a group.

  3. Retreats have long-term benefits: It’s an experience that stays with you long past your holiday. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. When you are disconnected from adult responsibilities, it gives you the space to experience the present moment with kid-like wonder. Those memories stay with you and give you a place to mentally visit whenever you need a moment.

  4. Professional guidance: The retreat’s hosts/guides are professionals in the topic of the retreat. It’s an excellent way to get one-on-one time with a specialized teacher. Depending on what you are seeking, you can get first-hand information and guidance. Plus, the retreat’s theme will bring together like-minded people. If you are going through a transition in your life, a retreat will give you a chance to share and connect with others who can relate and offer consolation or inspiring thoughts to help with your transition.

  5. Retreats Can Be More Economical: The retreat hosts can get a better price for lodging, activities, transportation, and food because we have a group of people. If you add the time it takes to plan and organize a similar holiday, you will have spent 2x more.

Bonus note: most retreats offer activities in nature. The great outdoors helps you disconnect, unwind, and reconnect to your essence, the natural world. You are nature. If you are looking to heal or understand things on a deeper level, try to make sure nature is a big part of the retreat that you choose.

***Not all hosts/guides/healers/teachers are created equal. Please do your research before choosing your retreat. Google the company, read reviews, and set up a Zoom call for a face-to-face introduction and an opportunity to ask all your questions to a real person.

Did you know?

Mangrove forests clean more air per sq mt than the Amazon Rain Forest. The entire coast of the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico is covered in mangrove forests. We must take great care of this fragile, global impacting ecosystem. * see photo above
