6 simple things you can do to start detoxing your home today

Home Detox Healthy Home Healthy People Healthy Planet
  1. Take your shoes off at the door.

    • Create a space at all entry doors to remove shoes. Purchase a coarse rug to remove large contaminants and provide a basket for shoes. You can give your guest slippers if you are so kind. Why? Because the streets come into your home on your shoes. Then you walk barefoot, or your kids are crawling around on the floor soaking up and spreading the invisible enemies around your home.

  2. Purchase indoor plants.

    • One plant per 100 square feet can effectively clean the air. Fill your space with detoxifying plants to purify the air in your home. Plants absorb carbon dioxide, give us oxygen, and remove contaminants such as formaldehyde and ammonia from the air. Manola from Tai Spa will recommend the best indoor plants in our upcoming week of Home Detox & WELL Home. Stay tuned!

  3. Ban single-use plastics.

    • If it’s your party, you can make the rules. Ban all single-use plastics from your home. Purchase reusable water/drink bottles made of glass or stainless steel and bring your own cloth bags for all shopping needs. Ask your favorite restaurants to use compostable takeaway dishes and say no to the plastic cutlery. For those with older teenagers, purchase durable plastic or stainless cups to replace the red and blue party cups.

  4. Open windows and turn on fans.

    • The air quality inside of your home is 2-4% more polluted than the outdoor air. Air circulation is needed to send out the contaminates and bring in fresh oxygenated air. For best results, open your home to create airflow for 2-3 hours per day.

  5. Read labels and get to know your favorite brands intimately.

    • Many of the ingredients in your packaged foods, home goods, cleaning, and personal care products are potentially harmful to your health. Read and define all components to make informed decisions for your family’s health. Maybe your favorites brands do not know that their products are causing harm to their clients, and perhaps you can help them? Talk to them, don’t be afraid to ask questions; even the big brands will be available by social media 😉

  6. Tell your staff about your detoxed WELL Home.

    • Nannies, chefs, housekeepers, gardeners, pool maintenance all need to be on the same page as you. Talk to them about your plans to rid your home and garden of toxic chemicals and pollutants. Explain that food is best when it comes from the farmers, and don’t forget to mention your single-use plastic ban! Take the time to train them. This part can be somewhat challenging because people have their ways but be persistent, and they will eventually understand and be grateful to you.
